Introducing Wrangler X Jakey Pedro
Inspired by the wildness of Navajo rodeos and bold pastel colours, we’re excited to come together with Bondi artist Jacob Pedrana to present our new Wrangler x Jakey Pedro collection.
Born and raised in rural Noosa Heads, artist Jacob Pedrana’s current works speak to the wildness of the Navajo rodeo, induced by sub tropical colouring. Fusing bold pastel acrylic block colours with the soft edge of an oil stick, a melding that transports viewers into the sensory balminess of countryside.
Pedrana’s love for iconic cowboys astride bucking horses, combinedwith Wrangler’s rich history steeped in western influence makes for a match made in rodeo heaven.
The collection leads you on a nomadic journey as his unruly neoexpressionist art is adorned across a distinct range of denim and apparel, ensuring each unique piece will become a treasured wardrobe collectible for years to come.
Find out more about the man and the inspiration behind the collection:
Why were you keen to work with Wrangler?
I love the fact that Wrangler is such a heritage brand, over 75 years old now and just the whole mid-western theme suits my aesthetic of work as well.
What inspired some of the pieces of the range?
I’ve got a lot of floral aspects in the yardage that I did in there. There is also some of my rodeo paintings that we thought would suit this collaboration and yeah, more just the cowboy theme works well together as a marriage.
If you can, could you touch on why surf, western culture and fashion is source of inspiration?
I was brought up in the Hinterland of Noosa Heads, so inland, and Dad used to take us to the rodeo and speedway. I sort of had a bit of cowboy aspect as a kid and you know, Mum would take us to the
beach.
My upbringing and just what I’m into now – it’s kind of living the life of what I’m painting if you know what I mean.
Any last notes you want to say about the collection?
Yeah, I’m just really glad to collaborate with a company and a brand that’s known to be durable and wears out nicely and the fact that my work can live on through durable clothing is a really nice thought.
